Welsh Beef Wins Gold - Again!26/08/16
Renowned Welsh Butcher Edwards of Conwy is delighted to have received two “Great Taste Awards” for its Welsh Beef products ahead of the Summer Bank Holiday, which promises to be a hot weekend of strong BBQ sales in retailers across Wales.
Edwards’ Welsh Beef Steak burgers and Welsh Beef Meatballs were both awarded a prestigious gold star following judging alongside 10,000 other products. Edwards believes its success is due to using only PGI Welsh Beef (Protected Geographical Origin) which is produced from cattle guaranteed to be bred in Wales and reared on luscious Welsh pastures. – “It has to be Genuinely Welsh and we ensure this from farm to fork, this combined with our blend of seasonings means these products are truly unique and we are very proud to be able to be part of the growth in Welsh Farming”.
Judged by over 500 of the most demanding food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for specialty food producers, which is why Edwards choose to enter. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges. The panel of judges included; TV chef and author, Valentine Warner, MasterChef judge and restaurant critic, Charles Campion, fifth generation baker, Tom Herbert from Hobbs House Bakery, and Great British Bake Off winner, Frances Quinn; food buyers from Harrods, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Harvey Nichols and Waitrose and chefs including, James Golding, chef director of THE PIG Hotels, and Kevin Gratton, chef director of HIX Restaurants.
