Pork, Egg & Black Pudding Pie: Best Cold Eating Pie in Britain08/11/12
Our fantastic Pork, Egg and Black Pudding pie has won a top UK Diamond award at the 2012 Smithfield Awards, a national product evaluation which is among the most coveted in the meat industry.
The prestigious awards are organised by the Q Guild of Butchers, which is the UK’s top independent butchers’ organisation.
The evaluation consists of nine categories. Within each, products can win one of four awards – Diamond, Gold, Silver or Bronze. More than 400 products from Q Guild members across the UK were assessed in the product evaluation by an independent panel of judges, made up of both industry experts and lay judges.
We won a Diamond award for our Pork and Black Pudding Pie with local free range egg; beating all others in the Pies and Bakery (cold) category. Pies were submitted from all over Great Britain. The shop was also awarded a further five Gold and three Silver accolades for its products.
Ieuan Edwards, commented: “We’re thrilled that our products have been recognised in the Smithfield Awards, and we’re especially proud to have received a coveted Diamond award for our fantastic pie. Winning this National UK title is a fantastic achievement for Jack our bakery supervisor as this was his first ever attempt in a competition! As a Q Guild member, we regard ourselves as among Britain’s best butchers, and these awards prove that we have the products to match.
The awards ceremony took place on 6th November 2012 at Butchers Hall in London. Broadcaster and food critic Jay Rayner attended and presented Dave Malloy the shop Manager at Edwards of Conwy with its awards.
Established in 1986, The Q Guild promotes traditional craft skills and award winning meat products. Its members in the UK from Shetland to Cornwall, serve meat and related products to over a quarter of a million UK consumers every week.
